Edit Round One #amediting #writerslife

I’ve just finished the edit round number one for my adult thriller! I have this weird extreme focus when I’m editing – it seems like the only thing I can think of doing all day (even while I’m plotting the second manuscript of the book that will be published) …what can I say, I love writing and editing!

But we won’t talk about queries, synopses, and pitches *cries in a corner*

So here are some stats for my edits, just to give a bit of an idea of what I do during this first round. My goal is always to decrease my crutch words (and I had so many! *ugh*). What you see in the second column is the new total amount (which, for some, will be decreased once again in the second edit round):

Words Count Edits #1 new count

That 638 214
Nodded 50 13
really 59 11
just 274 80
then 211 24
down 207 99
up 273 157
Think 79 47
Thought 68 47
Breath 164 76
Went 64 26
Never 77 42
Walk 85 29
Talk 77 60
Know 240 148
Like 245 109
Smile 135 74
Toward 196 97
The 4576 2997
Few 165 70
So 344 170
-ly 813 577
Frown 53 37
Eyes 296 183
grabbed 73 52
glanced 82 60
glancing 43 35
gaze/ed/ing 54 44
stare/ed/ing 188 94
turn/ed/ing 180 116
look/ed/ing 192 108
shook 69 66

During the first round, I also add descriptions for scenes using smell, touch, taste, visual – anything that makes the reading more immersive without over doing it and boring readers, though!
